The essentials: Basic editing and running stay free. Pro is optional. You keep your code. Apple handles payment, renewal, cancellation and eligible purchase restoration.
1. Using Python IDE
These terms explain how Python IDE and its optional Pro features work. The app is provided by the developer identified on its App Store listing. Use of an App Store copy is also governed by Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement and applicable Apple terms. These product terms supplement that agreement and do not remove rights you have under applicable consumer law.
2. Free features and Pro
Basic file creation, editing, autosaving, importing, exporting and Python execution are free, with no file-count or run-count limit. The first three lessons, first coding challenge, all quizzes and three games are also free. Pro adds the full course, challenge and game libraries, code completion, formatting, debugging, compatible package installation and upgrades, and automatic or manual code snapshots. All Pro plans unlock these same features. Code version history is stored locally and keeps up to the 30 most recent versions per file.
If Pro expires, existing saved files remain editable and runnable, installed packages remain usable, and previously saved code versions remain available to preview and restore. No new automatic or manual version snapshots are added without Pro; autosaving the current file remains free. Saved source from paid courses and challenges still runs normally, but their instructions, hints and challenge checking require a current Pro entitlement. Free learning content is unaffected. A program or debugging run already started in the editor can finish; starting a new Pro operation requires active entitlement. Pro access is based on verified Apple transactions; a pending, unverified, refunded, revoked or expired purchase may not grant access. The current in-app page describes the features and plans available to you.
3. Plans, payment and renewal
Pro offers monthly and yearly auto-renewing subscriptions and a lifetime, one-time purchase. A lifetime purchase unlocks the app’s Pro features without recurring subscription charges; it is not a promise of any unannounced future service or product. We do not advertise a free trial unless one is explicitly displayed by Apple at purchase.
Prices, currency, applicable taxes and availability are shown by the App Store for your region. Review Apple’s confirmation screen before you purchase. Payment is charged through your Apple Account. Monthly and yearly subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled; renewal billing and any changes are handled under Apple’s terms.
4. Cancellation, restoration and refunds
- Manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple Account’s Subscriptions settings. Apple explains the steps here. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
- To restore eligible Pro purchases, sign in with the same Apple Account and use Restore Purchases on the app’s Pro page. Restoration verifies entitlement; it does not restore local code, code version history or learning progress.
- Refund requests for Apple purchases are handled through Apple, subject to Apple’s process and applicable law. Request refund help from Apple.
5. Your code and your files
You keep your rights to the code and other content you create. The app does not claim ownership of it or require you to upload it to us. You decide what to run, install, import and share. Respect other people’s rights and the licenses that apply to third-party code and packages.
Files, code version history and learning progress are stored locally. Keep exported backups of work you care about, particularly before deleting the app, changing devices or running code that modifies files. Imported scripts and packages can access files and network capabilities available to the app, so review their behavior before running them.
6. Compatibility and current limits
Python IDE includes an on-device Python runtime, not a complete desktop operating system. Package installation supports compatible pure-Python wheels; packages requiring native extensions or source compilation are not supported. The graphical game examples use the app’s own renderer and do not provide general Pygame or desktop GUI support.
The editor’s completion is basic static completion, and debugging focuses on the current script. Automatic iCloud sync is not included. Python behavior can depend on package compatibility, platform limits and the code you run; consult the current app descriptions when choosing a feature.
7. Examples, open source and names
The included examples are designed to be opened, studied and modified in the app. Third-party components retain their own licenses. CPython is distributed under the Python Software Foundation license; the BeeWare Python Apple Support project uses the MIT license. See the app’s Open Source Licenses page and bundled notices for details.
Python IDE is an independent app. It is not an official Python Software Foundation product and is not endorsed by that foundation. Apple and the App Store are names and marks of Apple Inc.
8. Privacy and updates
Data handling is described in our Privacy Policy. We may update these product terms to reflect changes to the app or applicable requirements and will revise the date at the top of this page. Apple’s purchase terms and your applicable legal rights continue to govern relevant purchases.
